Once upon a time, in the little town of Seria, Brunei, a little girl barged in and interrupted a piano lesson her mother was teaching, and was granted her own lessons. In another part of the world, a three year old boy in Nagoya, Japan, spent five years begging and pestering his mother for lessons. When his mother finally gave in, he practiced with a vengeance to make up for lost time and never stopped.
Years later, the girl from Brunei and the boy from Nagoya met at UBC as they continued their musical pursuit and got married. With a deep love of music and piano playing, and an equally deep love for sharing that with others, NM Piano Studio was born!
Melody has over a decade of teaching experience, and has taught both privately and in academies. She holds a Master’s degree from UBC and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta, both in Piano Performance. Her teachers have included Alexandra Munn, Patricia Tao, Janet Scott-Hoyt, Jane Coop and Rena Sharon.
Naoki started his official musical training at the age of 8. After graduating from high school in Japan, he moved to the USA to continue his musical education. He received degrees from the University of Arizona (MM, Piano Performance), Boise State University (BM, Piano Performance) and Western Wyoming Community College (AA, Music).
