Spring Recital 2019

It’s been a wonderful studio year for us and we are so proud of all our students. Despite a few technical mishaps with our recording equipment, the recitals went beautifully and we couldn’t be more happy for our students and all their achievements.

The new venue this year was quite lovely and we are hoping to hold all our future term end recitals here. We appreciated seeing everyone’s families there to support and be an encouraging audience and the performances were well prepared and presented.

Congratulations to everyone and looking forward to many more in the future!

Spring Recital 2018

A big congratulations to all the students who played at our Spring Recital this year, and a big thank you to the family and friends who came to listen and cheer them on! As teachers, we are so proud of all the performers and how well they presented themselves on stage.

We always talk about how much courage and concentration it takes to perform in front of an audience, and this year was no exception. From the quality of the performances, we could clearly see the result of the hours of behind the scene hard work and practice that each student did.

As we prepared the edited videos, we also took a listen to past performances and it is so wonderful to hear how each student has progressed in their playing since last year. We are happy and proud and already looking forward to the next recital!

Here’re some photos after the recital and videos! Enjoy!

Studio Winter Party 2017

A great big thank you to all the students and their families who joined us for our third annual Studio Winter Party! And congratulations to all the students who performed and shared their music with us. Every year, we feel more and more proud at the progress and level of excellence that our students aim for. One of the reasons we started organizing the Winter Party was to provide a more casual environment for students to perform in. A lot of times, performance opportunities come with a lot of stress, especially when it’s for festivals or competitions or piano exams. So we wanted to give students a performance opportunity that had a very supportive atmosphere, with just family and studio mates.

Which brings us to one of the other reasons we started the Winter Party – getting to know each other! Learning and playing the piano is quite a solitary activity and can be quite lonely. However, when students connect with each other, they can encourage each other, be inspired by each other, and be motivated by a little friendly competition!

We had hoped in the previous gatherings that students would mingle naturally and become friends, but it seemed like everyone needed a little push. So this year, we went all out with preparing ice breakers, games and prizes for everyone to participate in and we feel it was a great success! There was lots of laughter and excitement as students introduced themselves to each other and worked together to complete tasks. That, along with the wonderful performances and amazing food that each family brought made it a great party. Looking forward to the next one already!

Studio Upgrade

Today, we have very exciting news to tell you 🙂

Those of you who took lessons over the summer already know and have been playing on it, but Melody’s grand piano finally arrived at our house all the way from Edmonton!! There were some ups and downs dealing with the moving companies, but it’s here and has no damage. A piano technician will be in to improve the performance and sound quality of the piano before the term starts.

Melody's Grand Piano

This upgrade should allow us to bring up our teaching standards even higher and we’re very much looking forward to this.

Here are some very important changes that you should take note of. Due to the change in the studio layout, we are not using the french doors in the backyard as the studio entrance anymore. The side gate leading there will be locked. Please use the main door that faces the back alley with the door bell. As many of you know, there is also construction happening right in front of our house. If you prefer to avoid it, you may park on 20th avenue (in front of the main house) and we will keep the west side gate unlocked so you can use that gate to come in to our main door. Of course, you’re more than welcome to park on Highbury street as usual and come from the back alley as well. The image below should make it pretty clear 🙂

New Entrance

If the west side gate happens to be locked due to the tenants living in the front house, please call your instructor and we’ll come out to unlock the gate.

Looking forward to having you all back in our studio soon!

Recital Programs

Another recital come and gone! Every year, we become more organized in preparing and setting up and our students impress with their exciting performances. This year’s annual recital was held at West Point Grey Baptist Church again, and we enjoyed using their beautiful space and piano. Below are some pictures in a slideshow and videos from the event.

A big thank you again to all the parents who give all their support every year and who were probably just as nervous as their children who were performing. Also, Melody’s sister, Michelle spent the entire afternoon with us managing the video camera to make sure that each performance was captured and we wouldn’t have survived without her!

We are already looking forward to the next performance, so to all our students: Keep practicing and making music!
